Zol to lead India U-19 in World Cup
Prolific Maharashtra batsman, Vijay Zol has been named as the captain of the Indian team which is scheduled to take part in the upcoming 2014 Under-19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The selectors have kept faith in most of the players who were part of the victorious Asia Cup campaign at the same venue earlier this month.
There is one change though - medium pacer Atit Sheth replaces left-arm pacer, Rishi Arothe. 17 year old Atit was a part of the squad which won the Quadrangular series at home last year - also featuring the Under-19 teams of Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
This will be the second time that Zol will be a part of the Under-19 World Cup. He was a prominent feature in the squad that won the previous tournament held in Australia. Unmukt Chand was India's captain then as they beat hosts Australia in the final.
To be featuring 16 teams, the Under-19 World Cup will have four groups, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the Super League quarter-finals, while the bottom two teams will fight it out in the Plate League Quarter-finals.
India are in Pool 'A' and have been grouped with Pakistan, Scotland and Papua New Guinea. They will begin their campaign against arch-rivals, Pakistan on February 15th.
